Recycle glass, Don’t throw away your glass containers
Recycling glass in the UK has increased dramatically over the last few years with around 50% of all glass now recycled and used to create new glass bottles and glass containers. However, when you consider the UK still throws away around 600,000 tonnes of glass each and every year there is still much work to be done especially with countries such as Switzerland recycling around 90% of their waste glass.
It is worth remembering that all of the rubbish which you throw out, and do not recycle, will very often end up in a landfill site with potential issues for the environment. However, by simply recycling your glass containers they can be melted down and used to create new bottles and new jars saving significant landfill space and energy. It is estimated that recycling two glass bottles will save enough energy to boil water for 5 cups of tea.
