Recycling rubbish in the UK
Recycling has become something of a hot subject across the UK with governments pushing consumers to recycle more and more of their waste while many local authorities continue to cut back on waste collections. Many local authorities around the UK are only collecting rubbish once every two weeks even though they are trying to encourage more and more consumers to recycle and reuse their waste. So what exactly is going on?
The problem is that UK consumers are paying more and more in tax and receiving, in many cases, a substandard service with regards to collection of their refuge. Large families cannot be expected to retain rubbish outside of their homes for two weeks when in many cases bins are overflowing and rubbish is often visible in the streets. We’ve also seen a significant increase in so-called fly tipping which is illegal and is basically the dumping of rubbish by the side of a road, knowing that the authorities will at some stage be forced to pick it up.
There have been many reports of increased vermin, including rats and mice, across the UK and while the local authorities are adamant that refuge collection schedules will not change in the short term there is a real push for change amongst consumers and businesses alike. Who will give in first?
