The benefits of recycling glass
While we are often told to recycle as much class as possible there are some rather startling and worrying statistics for many of us to consider.
Did you know that even in the high-technology world we live in today it is not known how long it takes glass to break down and disintegrate. However, what is known is the fact that glass which was made over 3000 years ago in the Middle East is still being found on a regular basis fully intact. When you consider the millions upon millions of glass bottles and glass items which are disposed of each and every year we can only begin to imagine the damage this is doing to the environment.
The government has also calculated that simply by recycling one glass bottle this will save enough energy to power a colour television for 15 minutes. So if you just imagine the number of glass bottles and glass items you may dispose of each and every year you can only begin to imagine how much of an energy-saving we are all missing out on.
While glass recycling is vital it is only one of a number of products which we are not disposing of in the correct manner and recycling where possible.
