Recycling your old spectacles
There are many recycling opportunities which are often missed by consumers in the UK and one which does not receive an awful lot of attention is the recycling of old spectacles. Recycling your glasses has never been easier and with more and more people in the UK wearing glasses the opportunities are growing all of the time. So how can you recycle your old glasses?
More people are now recycling old glasses by giving them to opticians throughout the UK, many of which are part of a scheme which sees your old spectacles cleaned, corrected and then passed on to people in the Third World. These are people who are for the sake of a pair of glasses, as good as blind although they will make very good use of your old set. It is sometimes easy to forget that those in the Third World would often give anything for the castoffs which we throw away in the western world!
So next time you replace your glasses do not throw your old spectacles away, instead go down to your local opticians and ask them if they are part of the Third World recycling scheme. If not, they should be able to point you in the right direction and there is also information available on the Internet.
