Why do Green policies equal tax rises?

Even though the vast majority of the UK population have taken up the mantle of recycling and assisting the environment there is a feeling that the UK government is using this growing trend in Green policies to increase taxes for other areas of the UK government budget.

It seems that each new green policy and new recycling program in some way equals a cost to the UK taxpayer despite the fact that recycling programs are supposed to save money in the longer term. If these programs are actually crystallising savings, where is this money going and who is actually benefitting?

This is one of the mysteries of the growing trend for Green policies and one which ultimately the UK government and the various Green parties are unable to answer. We recycle to save energy, yet energy costs keep rising, we recycle to save the environment, yet each year we hear about new issues and new problems. The main problem is that the UK government’s various Green policies may well be working but there is no transparency for taxpayers to see where this money is going and who is actually benefiting.

In an ideal world we should seek funds raised from various Green taxes and recycling taxes ring fenced and invested for the good of the environment, but in reality this is never going to happen.
