Devon recycling firm hit by the recession
Mid Devon Community Recycling, a not-for-profit organisation, has announced that the regular collection of recycled waste from businesses in the area will cease. The company has for some time been running a weekly collection service although unfortunately the level of business recycled waste has reduced during the recession and due to the sell on prices of the recycled products and recycled elements it is no longer viable to continue the service.
While this will affect around 650 businesses in the area there will be no change to the company’s fortnightly collections from around 33,000 households in the area which will be unaffected. The company is contracted by the Mid Devon District Council until 2013 in a move which has proved very successful and ultimately taken away an air of suspicion with the company being run for “no profit”.
There is a feeling that the UK government, which is very short of cash at the moment, is cutting back on the amount of funding handed over to recycling companies and recycling projects in the short term. However, funding is almost certain to increase in the future once the UK is out of recession and the ever-growing UK national debt is more under control.
