Glasgow Council announces schools recycling project

By Recycle Man

Glasgow city council has today announced a school’s recycling project which will take in 40 nursery, primary and secondary schools in and around the Glasgow area. The idea is that the schools and nurseries will recycle significantly more of their waste which will be collected from large blue bins which will be installed in and around the school’s grounds.

When you consider that Glasgow City Council currently pays in excess of £350,000 on landfill taxes per year to dispose of waste from schools around the area, there is potentially a massive saving to be made. It is also very useful to involve children at this very early stage of their education so that they are well aware of the benefits of recycling as they get older. Even though there has been significant progress in this particular field there is no doubt that the young people of today are the future of the recycling world tomorrow.

This particular schools scheme is one of many operating in the UK at this moment in time, with many projects showing great progress even at this very early stage. When you consider that the Glasgow city council alone spends over £350,000 a year on landfill taxes, we can only estimate the massive spending across the UK!
