Man fined £400 for leaving garden waste at recycling centre

By Recycle Man

Bracknell Forest Council has revealed that Stephen Green, from Bracknell, has been fined £400 after workmen at one of the councils recycling centres spotted him leaving two black bin bags which contained garden waste. Apparently the recycling site at Lark Hill does not have facilities for garden recycling and while the gentleman in question was warned that he could be seen to be “fly tipping” he allegedly still left the bags at the centre.

After taking note of his car registration details, the council worker passed the details to his superiors who then instigated legal action against him which ultimately led to the court case. After pleading not guilty Mr Green was fined £400 by the court and ordered to pay court costs of £540 as well as a surcharge of £15. So all in all the dumping of two small bin bags full of garden waste have cost this gentleman the best part of £1000!

While you can understand the councils taking a more hardline approach to “fly tipping” on the streets and roads in their area, is it really fair to fine somebody for leaving waste at a recycling centre. What kind of world are we really living in?
