Recycling scams
More and more people around the UK have been bombarded with recycling companies offering free pick-ups for clothes and other items which they suggest will be going to charity. Very often the recycling companies will have impressive flyers which they will put through your door with an array of contact details, telephone numbers and in some cases bogus charity numbers. If you receive a flyer through your door you can always log onto the Internet to check that the charitable number is correct and present and ultimately whether the company in question is legitimate.
It is now common knowledge that many recycling companies are in fact nothing more than a front for the collection of potentially valuable items which are then sold on for the benefit of those running the operation. Recycling scams are popping up everywhere around the UK and despite the UK government and local authorities clamping down as quickly as possible, very often a new one will replace an old one in a very short space of time.
These “companies” make money by preying on the good nature of UK citizens which they are then able to turn into ready cash for themselves and disappear into the night!
