South Bucks District Council introduces new recycling bins
The South Bucks District Council has recently issued 13 special recycling bins which are modelled on the more traditional street bins but have separate sections for paper and card, drink cans, food tins and plastic bottles as well as traditional litter. While they are slightly bigger than your traditional street bin they in no way impose upon the environment as much as the large scale recycling centre bins seen outside many supermarkets.
It is hoped that by making these new recycling bins more accessible to the public that South Bucks District Council will be able to reach its recycling target of 40% by the end of 2010. If these 13 tests recycling bins are successful they will be rolled out across other areas of South Bucks and possibly taken on by other councils up and down the country.
While there is no doubt that the UK public and UK businesses are more acutely aware of recycling these day, with recycling rates moving higher, it is vital that recycling bins are as easily accessible as possible. Despite a relatively slow start in the recycling industry, the UK has certainly taken on the baton and is now amongst one of the leading European recycling nations, with many councils ahead of their EU recycling targets.
