Wasps attack recycling centres in Norfolk

Norfolk county council has today issued an appeal for those recycling their glass bottles and drink cartons at the county’s many recycling centres. Due to the sugary liquids being left in many containers a number of sites around the country have been invaded by huge swarms of wasps which are causing problems for workers and people visiting the sites.

While the council has installed a number of wasp traps to try and reduce the numbers they are appealing for people to rinse out their glass bottles and drink cartons before leaving them at the recycling centre, in order to try and cut down on the number of wasps. This is a very common problem, as many people in the UK will know, with wasps attracted to slightest smell of sugary liquid left in the bottom of a container or even on the ground. A small number of wasps can soon grow and before you know where you are there can be major issues with safety, especially with children playing in the area.

It may also be an idea for those recycling at home to rinse out their glass bottles and drinks cartons before placing them in their own recycling bins for collection – better to be safe than sorry.
